Active Learning Fellowship

Dates: Mondays, Sept. 16 – Nov. 18, 2019
Time: Noon–1:30pm
Location: 302 Middleton Building, 1305 Linden Drive
Stipend: $500 | Lunch is provided each week

The promotion of active learning on campus requires the identification of new teaching approaches and the creation of new opportunities for faculty and instructional staff to develop the skills to facilitate the desired student learning outcomes for their course and program. The Fellowship on Active Learning will focus on the following outcomes:

  • Identify ways active learning supports campus, SCID, program, and course outcomes.
  • Identify active learning approaches that support course and program outcomes.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of active learning approaches using in the classroom.
  • Develop messaging and communication strategies to promote active learning approaches in a SCID, program, or course.
  • Recommend changes to the Using Active Learning in the Classroom booklet.

Learning Spaces Fellowship

Stipend: $1000 | Lunch is provided each week

As campus continues to invest in learning spaces that foster deeper, more active learning, it becomes more important to leverage research on learning spaces to identify attributes that have the greatest impact on learning and research. The Fellowship on Learning Spaces, co-sponsored by Facilities Planning and Management, the Office of Sustainability, and DoIT Academic Technology, will focus on the following outcomes:

  • Identify, study, and prioritize elements and attributes of effective learning space design.
  • Redesign campus classrooms to study the effects of space attributes on student learning.
  • Demonstrate the value of campus investments in learning spaces.
  • Integrate learning spaces research into existing campus design processes.
